| Giselle makes her England debut! | ||
The club would like to congratulate Giselle Ansley on her fine achievement after she represented England U18s at the home nations tournament in July. So how did she get to play for England? .... Giselle attended an England
training camp in November 2009 after representing
Wessex Leopards which is the next level on from the JRPCs. After not being selected for the first squad Giselle returned back to the club determined to get selected later in the season.
She received a call up
to the May training camps at Lilleshall followed by selection for a training match
v Wales U.21 side, at Moulton College Northampton winning 2-1. Next up was the Germany camp with a strict
programme of training, diet, rest etc and three matches v a speedy, skilful and
fairly volatile German side. After a 1-0 lead for most of the first game England lost 2-1 but this was rectified the following evening with a 2-1 win! Friday 16th saw the squad of 18 fly to Cork for the Home Nations championships. They beat Wales 2-1 all goals from PC routines. Saturday saw 2-1 defeat of Scotland with goals from Penalty corner and reverse shot but we fell foul of the Irish on Sunday after an excellent start,( against the opposition umpires and the crowd!) conceding a goal in latter stages of game to lose the game and title to Ireland. Now a return to the cricket field before pre-season hockey at Loughborough starts on August 14th and five of the squad meet up again! |
