U14 Girls regional round of National Cup

The U14 girls travelled to Bournemouth on Sunday to play Surbiton, Bournemouth and Cirencester in the regional round of the National Cup. Unfortunately the first game against Surbiton proved to be a steep learning curve! They were a very well organised and well drilled side who very quickly asserted their authority on the game. Izzy Ford was player of the match making some outstanding saves but every save she made seemed to fall directly to a Surbiton player. Credit to the team they didnt give up and despite the 10-0 scoreline came off disappointed but not disheartened. The next game against Bournemouth was more evenly matched and the girls played some good hockey and were unlucky not to score. Two goals went in late in the game and so we moved on to the last game against Cirencester. Unfortunately another defeat finishing 3-0. Izzy Ford impressed in goal throughout the day and hopefully will now carry on and into league hockey. It was a good experience for everyone especially as all bar 2 of the team will still be U14 next year - we will be better prepared now that we know what to expect! A season of 11-a-side hockey and more full pitch preparation against stronger opposition is a must!
The team were a credit to the club in how they conducted themselves and how they kept going despite the defeats.
