Girls U14s - Devon Hockey U14 Final Tournament Triumph
Posted by Peter Long on 10 April 2016
Well done to the U14 Girls. An excellent result at the Sidmouth tournament today.
We played a PMHC team of 7 (plus subs when both teams didn't have to play at the same time) and a 'Barbarians' team which comprised a mix of everyone at times or, when both teams had to play simultaneously, which borrowed a few players from other teams.
Everyone got to play in both teams at some point and this meant only two 15min breaks in the 4hr schedule, especially punishing for Emse, who played 11 full matches.
Our main team came 1st and our Barbarians team came 5th (out of 8 teams).
The champagne moment was Esme's stunning, full stretch, over-head save (most of the goal is over her head to be fair) from a fizzing top of the D shot from Sidmouth.
My player of the day was Alice Lamb - for her relentless desire for the ball, covering more ground than most, tracking back to win the ball, running wide to recieve the ball, running wherever the ball was to get the ball - even if that meant stealing it from under the nose of her own players!! Relentless, persistent and even a bullet of a tomahawk shot that rattled the crossbar, but desrved to find the net.
Ellie was our highest goal scorer (I think) although pleasingly several of the players got got on the score sheet one or more times.
Thank you to all the parents who travelled up to ferry players, support the teams, warm their daughtrs and share around food & brews. Well done everyone, you all came 1st and 5th..
