Match Report | Seventh-placed Plymouth Marjon remain unbeaten at home this year following a 3-1 Premiership victory over fourth-placed University of Exeter A. Buoyed by the return of the experienced trio of skipper Phil Mutlow, defender Dave Lynch and attacking midfielder Sam Blonden the Reds played some of their best hockey against an organised Exeter side. Plymouth took the lead after 28 minutes when Sam Blonden pounced on a loose ball to smash his shot past Exeter ‘keeper Ryan Dudley. A second-half Matt Bell double – including a superb shot on the spin after 53 minutes – gave the home side a comfortable 3-0 lead. Further chances were cleared off the line from Matt Bodily and Phil Mutlow penalty corners. “A late deflected goal was our only disappointment,” said coach Jamie Oxley. “It would have been nice to have secured a second clean sheet in a row.” Plymouth visit fifth-placed Bristol University this Saturday.
