Match Report

Following on from their previous good results Plymouth started this tricky away fixture full of confidence and it showed as they played some intelligent, sharp hockey in the opening stages. Plymouth continued to push hard throughout the first half and created several good chances but lacked the final cutting edge to take the lead. The home team did little to trouble Plymouth in the first half apart from one or two break away attacks which Nat Halford and Amy Headon were able to diffuse. Plymouth were unlucky to finish the half at 0-0. The away team started the 2nd half in the same fashion as the first and attacked well through Hannah Martin, Rachel Daw and Rachel Stannard. Eventually the deadlock was broken as Charlie Smith won a short corner. A well executed move saw Holly Rippon stopping and allowing Charlie Shobrook to find the net with a sweetly struck straight drive from the edge of the D. The home team then rallied and forced several short corners but the Plymouth defence stayed calm and defended well to limit the home teams chances. Plymouth countered well, moving the ball at high tempo from defence to attack, this saw Charlie Smith taking on the Yate defence as she dribbled round several players and pulled the ball back from the by-line setting up Mel Leach on the stretch to slam home their second goal.  This cushion gave the away team much confidence and they continued to move the ball around well, learning from last weeks nervous ending they were able to keep hold of the ball in the final few minutes and play out a well deserved win. This was a very a great team performance, with everyone showing commitment, desire and hard work. The POM was awarded to Rachel Daw for her brilliant efforts in both defending and attacking.
