Match Report |
It’s that time again! The final match report before Christmas for the 2s, who had an extra day to prepare for the visit of University of Exeter D team. The 2s had to deal with the lack of 2nd team stalwart Rob Thomas who was unable to play the Sunday fixture due to Church commitments. In his place veteran Jamie Oxley was drafted in as cover and to increase the average age of the defence from 16 to 30. The 2s started brightly thanks to some crisp passing and good movement off the ball, this early pressure led to Plymouth taking the lead within 10 minutes, thanks to a smart passing move which ended with Jevon Rimmer calmly slotting into the bottom corner. This was greatly appreciated by the small crowd who had taken the time to come and support us (along with their boom box which provided much entertainment to the home team, thank you!). The 2nd goal came after more sustained pressure and great patience in the build-up, this pressure led to a short corner which was finally bundled over the line by Ethan Davies. The 3rd came after some Exeter pressure which left them exposed at the back, a fast break and pinpoint passing left Jevon to finish off the move. At the interval Mr Oxley took it upon himself to do the team talk allowing Chris Ryan to rehydrate and enjoy his fake mars bar. The second half continued much like the first and more pressure led to Sam Willetts squaring the ball to Steve Wilson who finished into the roof of the net (he would also like to point out he set up both of Jevons goals!). A little complacency crept in and Exeter took one of very few opportunities to get on the score sheet, Torran Hockley was left exposed at the back and there was little he could do to stop the goal. The home side dominated for the remainder of the game and probably should have scored more but the 3 points were the important thing leaving the 2s joint 2nd in the league. A few final mentions must go to Steve Wilson who managed to fall over whilst laughing at the opponents and Sam Willetts who managed to drop his stick pick it up, juggle it almost fall over and not get tackled! MOM was Jevon Rimmer and DOD unsurprisingly went Jamie Oxley for his use of the wrong side of the stick and bleating on about how he had a 99.97% pass accuracy. Enjoy your break and see you next year! |
