Match Report |
In a hard fought almost top of the table encounter it was the 2s that came away with all 3 points. Plymouth led within 8minutes and a beautifully worked found the ball passed to base line before being pulled back to the penalty slot for Sam Willetts to calmly slot home (he just doesn’t miss from within 8 yards). Rather than press home there advantage the 2nd team decided to make it interesting and let Bristol back into the game with some lacklustre passing and poor marking. That’s how it finished at the half. After John Aked got the hair dryer out at half time the 2s were a different team with excellent ball movement down the wings and purposeful drives into the D. This was how both of the next goals were scored with pin point passes from Rob Thomas and Ethan Davies first picking out Sam Willetts with a less than convincing strike and secondly finding Dave Lynch (on his overdue return) with the best finish of the day. Plymouth continued to push and found a fourth thanks to some comedic defending, Joe Woodyear calmly passed the ball into the D where two defenders decided to deflect it past their own keeper. In typical PMHC style the game was not over at this point, Bristol scored from a bottom corner strike within 5 minutes and moved one closer when Ben Blundy was rounded and Adam Woodyear used his feet rather than stick to stop the ball on the line. Ben had no chance with the resulting flick. However some stout defending (even with 10 players) ensured no more goals were conceded and the 2s continued their unbeaten run at home and moved into joint second 5 points behind the leaders. Dave Lynch was MOM and Rob Thomas DOD, more for his antics after the quiz last rather than his performance on the day (although he did fall over and miss a reverse stick strike open goal in the warm up).
