Match Report

The Reds secured their first league win of the season after three straight defeats with a deserved 3-2 away victory over Exeter University A. Coach Jamie Oxley was delighted with his sides battling qualities stressing that the management were disappointed by the start but not over concerned. Exeter started the brighter creating the early chances, however keeper Ben Blundy and his defence were resolute. The reds slowly settled finding their passing and were rewarded when player of the match Seb Ansley stepped up from the back to create the opening goal with Ben Thomas slotting home the rebound effort. One minute later as the first half was all but complete Plymouth added a second to stun Exeter who looked deflated when Matt Bodily deflected the ball past the home keeper. 2-0 up at the break Plymouth added a third early in the second half when a George Thomas reverse strike caught the Exeter keeper out with skipper Matt Bell making sure from close range even though the ball was going over the line. Exeter rallied scoring two late goals to no avail as Plymouth held on.
