Match Report | CARMEN ANSLEY scored a last-minute winner as depleted Plymouth Marjon scored a surprise 3-2 win at Bournemouth in the West Clubs' Women's Hockey League top flight. Plymouth – still not assured of a Premier One place next season – fought back from 2-1 down in the second half to win thanks to two, late goals. Rachel Stannard levelled with 10 minutes remaining and then Ansley – whose sister Giselle recently debuted for England's senior women's team in South Africa – claimed a crucial three points for relegation-haunted Plymouth. Noelle Farrell scored for Plymouth in the first half as Heather Dixon's side went in 1-1 at the interval. Dixon admitted: "Selection this week was difficult as we were missing a lot of the usual first team squad and a players' car broke down on the way so we only had 11 players." Plymouth's win hoists them to eighth place in the 12-team table with two games remaining and a three point advantage over last day opponents Firebrands 2, who are third from bottom and facing relegation unless they move out of the basement three. Next Saturday Plymouth host top of the table Exe, who need to win to ensure promotion back to the National League after one season in the regional division |
