Match Report Boys U14s Vs  Team Bath Buccs - EH CUP - Tier 1 - West Cluster 1 - Match 1/5

A squad already lighter than planned following illness, travelled to the University of Bath, and unfortunately another was taken ill enroute. With only 11 Fileman solidered on to play most of the game in the bright midday sun.

The opening 5 minutues was scrappy with both teams struggling for control on a quick and slippery surface and soon after TBB took the lead through a re-directed penalty corner. This was quickly followed by a counter attack, forcing Holder off his line to make the intial save and the rebound falling kindly to the opposition forward for a simple 2nd goal. Plymouth then began to build some more convincing play more the ball laterally through the back line and then firing forward for midfield and forward positions and several chances opened up.

Just before half time, the already unwell Fileman took a stick to the knee leaving Plymouth to play out the half with just 10 players, which suprising didn't allow any TBB play in their defensive half.

Half time chat discussed them needing to be more concise and a 2nd half focus of retaining the ball for longer to ensure they could last the game and remain competitive.

Plymouth started the 2nd half brightly, mixing some good link play with some effective attacking movement, opening up the TBB defense. The backline was able to advance further up the pitch and really put some pressure on. This left them more volunerable to counter and attacks and against the run of play TBB broke and smartly eliminated Max to slot home their 3rd of the game. Cooper then did his best to rally his troops and continue battling in search of the Plymouth competition opener. Preece and Wilson continued to move the ball quickly and accuratly after making good tackles to win the ball.

Efforts didnt fade and with 10 to go Plymouth finally got their reward, a couple of flicks and tricks from Rump and Ingham fed a ball into Meertens, whose one time upright reverse effort flew across the goal mouth for Fileman to tap in to get them off the mark. TBB drew further saves out of Holder in the latter stages and the tired legs began to show as they scored their 4th. Credit to the group however, they didnt let them have any more opportunites and the final effort from Cooper acutally drew a fantastic point blank save from the TBB GK to keep Plymouth to just the single goal.

4-1 the final score. Preece took MoM (coaches vote) following a game of good tackles, decisions and effective organising efforts from central defender. The whole group must be credited though on their collective performance on a tough day with 10.5 players. Fileman also a great job at getting through the game when not well!
